How to Install Mumble

  1. Download Mumble from Sourceforge at this page.
  2. Run the installer to install the Mumble client on your computer.
  3. When the installer is finished, it will start Mumble if you have the Start Mumble checkbox checked. (Or, you may start it yourself, otherwise.)

How to set up Mumble

The first time you run Mumble, it will ask you to run the Audio Configuration Wizard. Click on Yes. (Or, if you clicked No, you can run the wizard later from the menu at Configure -> Audio Wizard.)

  1. Select the devices you wish to use for input (microphone) and output (headphones).
  2. For Device Tuning, select the lowest value that does not interrupt or make the sample sound jittery. A setting of 20ms is usually ideal.
  3. Use the Volume Tuning wizard to help tune your volume.
  4. For Voice Activity Detection:
    1. Select Push To Talk.
    2. Set the key that you wish to use for your Push to Talk key (this can be the same key you used in Ventrilo).
  5. For Quality and Notifications:
    1. Select Balanced for the quality setting.
    2. Choose whether you want the Mumble client to read notifications to you using Text-to-Speech (such as people entering and leaving your channel). This can always be changed later.
  6. For Positional Audio, check the box if you use headphones.
  7. You are now finished the Audio Configuration Wizard.

After configuring your audio, Mumble will run the Certificate Management wizard.

  1. Select Automatic Certificate Creation to create a certificate for you if this is the first time you've set up Mumble.
    1. This certificate will authenticate you to our server (it's used to create your account), so you may wish to later re-run the wizard to export your certificate so that you can back it up in a safe place.
    2. If this isn't your first time setting up Mumble (you got a new computer for example), then you may choose to Import a certificate from your backup to keep your current account on our server.

Now that your Audio and your Certificate are set up, it's time to add the Gypsies server to your server list.

  1. In the Mumble Server Connect window, click on Add New..., and enter the following settings:
    • The Username setting should be your own username, which is typically the character name of your main toon.
  2. Click OK, and you're free to connect to the Gypsies Mumble server.
  3. The first time you connect, you will be asked to accept the Gypsies server certificate. Simply click Yes to accept it. (We use a self-signed certificate.)

Gypsies Access Token

If you're a guest on our server, you're basically done. If you're a member of the Gypsies guild however, you can enter an access token to grant you access to our Gypsies Raids channels. (Guests have access to the other channels, and can be moved into one of the Gypsies Raids channels by a raid leader if they have pugged into the raid.)

  1. Select Server and Access Tokens from the Mumble menu.
  2. Click the Add button
  3. Type in the access token that's found in the Gypsies Guild Info panel in World of Warcraft.
  4. Click OK, and you've now got guild member access.
  5. Please keep this access token safe and private from non-Gypsies members. If you wish to use our Mumble server for a pug raid, you're welcome to use one of the Guest Raids channels, which do not require a token to enter.

After installation of new Mumble, it's asking me for a password even though the certificate has been imported.

Edit for clarification:

  • Already had a certificate backup in my Docs folder.
  • Installed new Mumble, upon logging in, told me it had the wrong password.
  • Re-imported certificate, but same message.
  • I had a backup certificate from a month ago, so imported that. Still "Wrong Password" error. :(

You shouldn't need a password, make sure the password field is clear in the connection properties.

I'm embarassed to say I can't find that. I looked in the Server settings and it only has Label, Server Name, Port Num, and Username.

I went through all of the pages of the Configure Advanced settings and didn't see anything about passwords.

The error says "Wrong Password for Registered Users". Its like it knows I am registered but forgot my 'password', w/e that is. Frustrated face.

Edit: Just for kicks I was re-importing my certificate(s) and I noticed a field for a password on the page where you import the certificate, but it was greyed out.

I've removed your account, so you can try again now. If you get in, then register yourself and I'll grant you Mod access back.

I just got a new computer and am having the same issue as Mahga.  I may need my account removed as well.

If you've registered yourself on the server, and then reinstall or change computers, your new setup won't have the same encryption Certificate and you won't be able to re-connect.  The easiest fix is for me to de-register you on the server, and then you can connect without any problem.
